A harness would be good, for a few reasons. Besides how much more preferable it is to tugging on a collar around the neck, the act of putting it on will help Lucky adjust to staying still while he's being handled.
You have to get them used to that when they're small, and so it's less of a problem when they grow up and you have to clip their nails or take them to the vet.
